A song for you, highlights from this month, and a peak into what's to come
Welcome to this week’s
Welcome to the second ever Sunday Letter, and thank you so much for being here.
My goal is to remain consistent with the publication of my newsletter. I’ve been spending a lot of time behind the scenes on this project: working on everything from the newsletter’s branding, to ideating the different columns I’ll be producing, and of course, writing and putting together each individual post. I’ve got plenty of ideas and I’m excited to have them keep coming to me, and to your inboxes.
As any creative does when they embark on a new endeavor, there is a bit of doubt that comes to play. What if I run out of ideas and content? What if I fall behind in consistency? What if I get ahead of myself and lose steam? I do worry that I will miss the mark on some of my goals or ideas for my newsletter. I can sometimes set high standards for myself, and I don’t always feel like I know what I’m doing.
So, I’m taking it day by day and week by week. I let inspiration come to me organically, and so far, it does just that in my day to day. I’m the conductor of this train and I can set my own guidelines, giving myself grace if I need to give myself more time. I don’t need to reinvent a wheel that I’ve already got rolling—it’s more so about packaging that and getting it to you all. That’s exactly why I started this newsletter: as both a creative and an educator, I truly do love getting to share with my community.
Something else I’m giving myself permission with is simply to t r y. It’s okay if this “fails” or if I try it for a while and decide not to continue. What’s most important to me is that I do try.
With that, let’s get into this week’s letter.
“Love’s Train” by Con Funk Shun
Much of my music taste originates from that of my dad. In fact, I literally copied this track from my dad’s iTunes library to my own, waaaay, way, back in the day. Here in my library it remains on repeat to this day.
I grew up listening to a lot of funk, soul, and smooth jazz aka “C” or contemporary jazz around my dad. What I love about the music I grew up listening to is that it gets better as I get older…reaching my heart and soul and taking on different depths and meaning at different points in my life.
As a bonus treat this week, I’m going to link Dru Hill’s cover from their 1996 debut album. Sisqó’s velvety, soulful, lead on this takes the classic to another level.
If you are that special lover
and love keeps you tied to another
That's the way it goes, on love's train

A share from my feeds
I came across this video by a therapist on my Instagram feed this past week and thought it was worth sharing with you all. I love what she says about perspective and conflict vs. connection—I’ll absolutely be striving to apply this to the relationships in my life when conflict and tension arise.

That wraps it for this week’s letter. I’ll have more for you in a couple of weeks.
